The psychology department is part of the multidisciplinary care offered at Nahla and assures a wide range of services that serve the needs of paediatric clients. Psychologists at Nahla study assess and treat psychological and social problems experienced by children and adolescents. They work with children, who may experience the following:
The psychologist provides consultation to teachers, school counselors, pediatricians, day care, workers, parents and others as part of comprehensive treatment plan. In case where required they may assist teachers in classroom behavior management or parents in developing better parenting skills.
Psychological counseling is the use of psychological means to assist clients in addressing and overcoming issues that cause distress. Counseling / Psychotherapy sessions are conducted for children, individuals, couples and family.
Children and young teens face the emotional problems that are specific to their age group. Child psychologists strive to help their clients with these particular issues. Depression and anxiety, sexuality concerns, school work and self-discipline, time management issues, experimental with drugs and alcohol and family crisis such as divorce or death all affect children differently than adults.
Child therapists create a safe atmosphere that allow children to express themselves and work through their problems. Children are able to communicate, as they feel to the therapist, leading to improved ability to cope with difficulties. Child therapists spend their time assessing the depth of these problems with their patients, working with them to develop solutions.
Counseling child psychologists take a behavioral approach to emotional problems with children and adolescents. These child therapists focus on helping their parents to develop ways to use their own strengths to cope with issue. And they counsel entire families when necessary. These problems are managed by specific therapies including Behavioral Modification, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy and Relaxation Techniques without intake of medicines. Psychometric assessments are used to find out the root cause of these issues. NAHLA also provide proper sex education and awareness sessions to children appropriate to their age.
